The Proper Hotel Santa Monica

The Proper Hotel has quickly become an icon of the west side. Before it popped up, Santa Monica didn’t have a design focused, high end hotel to stay in. Staying here feels like being transported to another world thanks to the exquisite interiors by Kelly Wearstler. It was the perfect place for an engagement staycation and they made us feel so special.

The design was Kelly Wearstlers take on a seaside hotel. Beach, but make it chic. Earthy tones, natural, sculptural materials that evoke coral and underwater creatures, and voluminous, billowing curves come together to create spaces that feel light and airy while also having drama and richness. The perfect setting to match my outfit to, as always.

Food Highlights

Backyard Bowls - Delicious acai bowls and smoothies, grabbed breakfast here every morning and ate it on the roof of the hotel

Calabra - The Proper’s rooftop restaurant. Couldn’t dine here in person since the restaurants were closed, but ordered to our room and it was delicious

Sugarfish - Always a fave wherever we go. Some think it’s overrated but I love it

Trejos Tacos - Grabbed tacos here and ate them at the park on Ocean Ave overlooking the ocean

Elephante - Had reservations here but didn’t get to go since the restaurants were all closed, will be trying it when we go back!

Gjusta - Located in Venice but worth the drive
